Enrichment History!
Each quarter, Mr. Hatfield's Enrichment History class reads an historical novel. At the end of the quarter, the students give presentations on different aspects of the novel, so that an audience (the rest of the 8th graders) can understand what the novel is about, without reading it.
Quarter 1
The book: A Break With Charity, about the Salem witch trials. The big presentation is a trial, in which the main character, Ann Putnam, is accused of the wrongful deaths of the 19 people she accused of being witches.
My apologies for the poor photographs. While the lighting in the auditorium is adjusted well for the live performance, the camera does not read it well. I choose not to use the flash because it is a live performance, and it would distract the performers. Not only would that be unkind, it would be unfair - they are being graded on this, after all!!!
QUARTER 2
The book: My Brother Sam Is Dead, an historical novel about the trials of a family during the American Revolution. In this skit, various characters voice their opinions about Sam's actions and how those actions affected each of them.
These presentations afforded no decent picture opportunities.
QUARTER 3
In the third quarter, Section 8-4 read the book Lyddie. It's about a young girl working at a textile mill during the American Industrial Revolution. One group chose to conduct news interviews with key characters concerning the working conditions in the mill.
